Galion’s Pickle Run festival started in 1978 as a fundraiser for the Galion Booster Club. It was held in Heise Park on Labor Day Weekend each year. The festival is named after a creek that once ran through town. Local legend is that a grocer, whose store was located on Harding Way East, pitched bad pickles into the creek back in the 1890s, and the name “Pickle Run” stuck.
Pickle Run was cancelled indefinitely in 1998, until last year when a small group of citizens rallied to bring it back! The festival was moved to Fourth of July weekend to complement existing activities.
